1st Workshop & Advisory Board Meeting

9-10 April 2018, WFP premises, Rome, Italy

The first of a series of yearly workshop took place in Rome. Representatives from Challenge Owners (EU SatCen, World Food Programme and ETH Zurich) met technical members of the project consortium (DEIMOS Space UK, Fraunhofer IAIS, TerraDue, DEIMOS Engenharia Portugal) to explore, discuss and agree on a set of User-Stories that can be transferred from the 9 initial challenges (3 per Challenge Owner).

The meeting sought therefore to identify more specifically the requirements to enable a user story in terms of input data (and its characteristics), pre-processing and processing to prepare this data for the big data pipelines that will be developed, and analysis methods, together with other end-user requirements (e.g. visualization); so as to meet each objective.  Result of this workshop consists of user-stories that are described in-depth along a similar structure.

The meeting of external BETTER advisory board aims to review and comment the user-stories generated in the first BETTER workshop. The advisory board will ensure that these stories can be addressed using methods and solutions that are beneficial or can be re-used by a wider stakeholder audience in the domain.

This event was open to the confirmed Advisory Board members: Florian Serban (Terrasigna / BDVA EO sub-group lead), Cristiano Lopes (ESA) and Geoff Sawyer (EARSC). The results were taken into account to improve the user stories and communicated together with other project results.
